Oliver Sherman to be screened at Göteborg Film Festival

Oliver Sherman will be shown at the Göteborg International Film Festival in early February. If you’re anywhere near Sweden and interested in going, you can find the screening schedule here.

The film will be competing for the Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award, usually given to a first or second time director “who in his film treats an existential theme that has a dynamic or experimental approach to the cinematic means of expression.”

Arkansas Traveler update

Updates on several fronts, but let’s start with this film:

garret dillahunt, arkansas travelerThe Kansas City Star talked to Ed Leydecker from Wide Awake Films recently and they have an update on Arkansas Traveler:

“We have a complete business plan put together, and we’re out there looking for funding,” [Leydecker] said. “Everybody remains very committed to it.”

The goal is to raise $10 million. Half would be used to produce the film about a psychotic Confederate officer who escapes a federal POW camp and treks back to his home in Arkansas. The other $5 million would be set aside for marketing and distribution costs.

The two Hollywood actors who participated in shooting the trailer — Garret Dillahunt and Angela Bettis — still want to appear in the film, Leydecker said. In the meantime, Dillahunt has a new hit TV series, the sitcom “Raising Hope,” while Bettis has landed guest spots on “Dexter” and “C.S.I.”

Winter’s Bone nabbed a few more nominations and awards from the critics in the meantime, most notably Best Ensemble from the Detroit Film Critics. Cinematical did a neat little roundup of all the Oscar contenders across the categories. You can read it here.

Raising Hope returns on Tuesday, February 8 at 9 pm. Mary Lynn Rajskub from 24 will make an appearance in one of the upcoming episodes.

Also in February, Oliver Sherman finally gets released, at least in Canada. Added a new hi-res poster to the film’s page.

And that pretty much wraps it up for the year. Hope everyone has a great New Year’s Eve and see you in 2011!
