The Last House on the Left (2009) is a remake of Wes Craven’s 1972 cult torture porn flick, which in turn is a remake of Ingmar Bergman’s Oscar winning The Virgin Spring, a revenge tale based a medieval poem, “Per Tyrsson’s daughters in Vänge.”
SYNOPSIS:
The night she arrives at the remote Collingwood lakehouse Mari (Sara Paxton) and her friend Paige (Martha MacIsaac) are kidnapped by a prison escapee named Krug (Garret Dillahunt) and his his crew. Terrified and left for dead, Mari’s only hope is to make it back to parents John and Emma (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter).
Unfortunately, her attackers unwittingly seek shelter at the one place she should be safe. And when her family learns the horrifying story, they will devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.
The Last House on the Left was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa in March 2008. It opened wide on Friday, March 13, 2009, and was released on DVD and Blu-ray in August 2009.
