Garret appeared in the first two seasons and played two different characters.
In season one, he played Jack McCall, the man who shot Wild Bill Hickok, and then returned in season two as Francis Wolcott, a fictional geologist working for mining magnate George Hearst.
It charts Deadwood’s growth from camp to town, incorporating themes that range from the formation of communities to western capitalism, with a number of historical figures (many of them fictionalized) portrayed throughout the three seasons: Seth Bullock, Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Sol Star, Calamity Jane, Wyatt Earp, E. B. Farnum, Charlie Utter, and George Hearst.
