I really enjoyed this movie. It was one of those films where, by the end it was just this nice sort of payoff, you know?

Garret Dillahunt: It was originally a play, which was a real selling point to me and probably to John too, because we are both old theater guys. It’s been a couple years since this all started. But I think I just went in and auditioned. I just went in and met the directors, they were in town. I remember driving to some out of the way location and we met and talked about it and discussed doing this and I went home and then I got a phone call. In other news, the second trailer for Widows has made its way to the web. The film will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival (Sept. 6-16) and open the 2018 London Film Festival (Oct. 10) before hitting theatres in November.

Two new projects have been announced recently. Sergio, filming now, is a biopic of UN diplomat and Iraq envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello. Garret plays Sgt. William von Zehle, who witnessed his final hours and tried to save his life. Some details from THR:

During his diplomatic career, Vieira de Mello drew as many accolades as scorn. Accused of being a “crisis junkie,” Vieira de Mello relished hot spots and war zones where he used his charm, good looks and negotiating skills to save lives.

He was killed in a hotel bombing in Iraq in 2003, along with other members of his staff, in an attack orchestrated by al-Qaida. The movie’s story is set hours after the attack at Baghdad’s Canal Hotel. As the world watches the efforts to save Vieira de Mello’s life, the diplomat, buried under the rubble, is forced to confront the dubious choices he has made during his personal life and career as the UN’s go-to man.

And here is some info about the second film, Supreme Ruler:

Supreme Leader centers on small-town go-getter Steve Loomis (Dillahunt), whose dream of becoming “supreme ruler” of his local Buffalo Lodge is unexpectedly challenged by a hard-drinking, womanizing lodge member, Hank. The two men are forced to travel to the Buffalo National Convention in Chicago in order to win the support of the organization’s national leaders, where Steve befriends an established supreme ruler, Nancy (Juliette Lewis).

Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker, The Alienist) and Marina Squerciati (Chicago P.D.) will also star, with Tom Berenger currently in talks for the role of Hank.
