A bunch of sites are reporting that The Scribbler has been picked up for distribution by XLrator Media and will be released in the U.S. next fall. Here is the press release:
XLrator Media has acquired North American distribution rights to the sci-fi action-thriller THE SCRIBBLER, starring Katie Cassidy (“Arrow”), Michelle Trachtenberg (“Gossip Girl”), Eliza Dushku (“Dollhouse”), Gina Gershon (Bound), Sasha Grey, Garret Dillahunt (Winter’s Bone, The Road), Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”), and Billy Campbell (“The Killing”). XLrator Media will release the film in theaters in fall 2014.
THE SCRIBBLER follows Suki (Katie Cassidy), a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn,” an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The closer Suki comes to being “cured,” she’s haunted by a thought… what if the last unwanted identity turns out to be her?
“Combining cool sci-fi elements with ass-kicking action from a cast of hot and talented actresses, The Scribbler captures the mind-bending, anarchistic spirit of the original graphic novel and brings it thrillingly to the big screen,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. The film from New Artists Alliance is directed by John Suits and written by Daniel Schaffer, who also penned and illustrated the original 2006 graphic novel on which the film is based. The film is produced by NAA’s Gabriel Cowan and Ken F. Levin of NightSky Productions and is executive produced by Kerry Johnson as well as Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller of Caliber Media. This is the fifth major sale this year for New Artists Alliance including SXSW hit Bad Milo and SXSW Audience Award Winner Cheap Thrills.
“New Artists Alliance have pulled off a remarkable adaptation, staying true to the themes of the graphic novel while adding a wealth of visual treats I never even thought of. Fans of the book won’t be disappointed. Fans of Katie Cassidy may actually pee themselves when they get a load of her performance as Suki,” said Daniel Schaffer.
The deal was negotiated by Barry Gordon and Mike Radiloff on behalf of XLrator Media and Traction Media on behalf of the filmmakers.
