Twelve Years a Slave to open New Orleans Film Festival

12 years a slave, chiwetel ejiofor, michael fassbenderNola.com reports that Twelve Years a Slave will be the opening film at this year’s New Orleans Film Festival, which runs from October 10 to 17.

If you’re planning on going, the tickets will go on sale on Thursday (August 15) and will be available at NewOrleansFilmSociety.org.

The 2013 New Orleans Film Festival will boast a decidedly local feel when it kicks off its 24th edition on Oct. 10. Director Steve McQueen’s locally shot adaptation of “12 Years a Slave” — starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt — was named the festival’s opening-night selection in an announcement this afternoon (Aug. 12).

McQueen’s film, which will be screening more than a week before its limited theatrical release, will be the centerpiece of a red-carpet, opening-night event to be held at the newly renovated Civic Theater on O’Keefe Avenue. McQueen is expected to be among those in attendance.

Garret to direct an episode of Raising Hope this season

Another interesting update from Give Me My Remote:

“I’m going to direct an episode; I’m looking forward to that,” Dillahunt shared. “That will be interesting, and fun.”

Dillahunt — whom you may have also seen during the summer hiatus in the WIGS series, “Paloma” — will make his directorial debut on a to be determined episode of the series a bit later in the season. (AKA, it’s a little too soon to know what the episode will be about or when it might air.)

New interview (Raising Hope)

Raising HopeGive Me My Remote has a new interview with Garret. Hit the link for the whole article.

RAISING HOPE bounced around a bit as it finished its third season (the final two episodes of the year aired on a Thursday), but when it returns for the upcoming season, it’s currently scheduled to make the move to Friday nights (after BONES).

“I even get tweets from people far from Hollywood that think ‘oh, you’re in the death slot,’” RAISING HOPE star Garret Dillahunt (Burt) acknowledged of the shift. “That’s just not true anymore. There are some hits on Friday nights: BLUE BLOODS and GRIMM did very well. A lot of people don’t know what night a show is on anymore, the way people watch TV. It could be great for us. We could end up being the stars of the night and last another three years. If we hold our audience, we’re going to be heroes. It really didn’t affect me one way or the other. And I suppose it would be a waste of energy if it did, because it’s happening. If something at Tuesday [tanks], or if it happens on another night, I have no doubt they’re going to put us right back in there. We seem to be that show for them.”
