Virginia, Burt, Jimmy, Sabrina, Maw Maw and Hope camp out on the front lawn after their house becomes tented for termites, but getting caught in the rain is the least of their problems. After learning that Hope hit a boy at day care, the family attempts to stop arguing out of fear that she will follow in her serial killer mom’s footsteps.

The cast and writers have grown to know each other’s capabilities and how to exploit them, he says.

“The plus side is you do kind of get comfortable,” Dillahunt says. “The challenge is to keep going deeper. One of the great things about series TV is you get to explore the character and his world much deeper. … The cast as a whole has brought more to it than might have been expected or hoped for. What’s great about this team of writers is that just makes them lick their chops.”

Virginia, Burt, Jimmy and Sabrina head to Las Vegas to attend Virginia’s cousin Delilah’s (Amy Sedaris) wedding. Virginia is embarrassed that she didn’t have the big wedding that her snooty cousin will have, so Burt attempts to make it up to her. Meanwhile, Jimmy tries to make a move on Sabrina who wants to go wild in Vegas.

“Kidnapped” airs on October 4.

The first article about Any Day Now showed up on Hollywood News today. It has some new info about Garret’s character, the story and the producers, as well as the first production still from the film, with Garret and Alan Cumming (see Hollywood News). A few tidbits:

Set in the 1970s and inspired by a true story, the film chronicles a gay couple who take in a teenage boy with Down Syndrome who has been abandoned by his drug addicted mother. As the teen discovers the strong bonds of family for the first time in his life, disapproving authorities step in to tear the boy from the only stable environment he has ever known. As the gay men fight to adopt this extraordinary special needs child, they wage an unlikely and unforgettable battle against a system stacked against them.

“I’m a huge fan of the gritty, character-driven dramas that were made during the 1970?s,” said Fine . “’Any Day Now’ offers me an opportunity as a filmmaker to revisit that time period cinematically, address social issues that are just as relevant today as they were 35 years ago and explore unique characters who discover love in the most unlikely of places.”

Cumming plays Rudy Donatello, a brash, charismatic and world wise drag performer who makes the bold decision to take the abandoned child into his life. Dillahunt portrays Paul Fleiger, a closeted Deputy District Attorney, who risks his career to fight for the men he loves. Fisher plays a stern family court judge who is tasked with rendering a decision in the highly unconventional adoption case. And Any Day Now introduces Isaac Levya, an actor with Down Syndrome, who makes a stunning and remarkable film debut as Marco, a boy abandoned by his mother only to be taken in by two strangers who provide a safe, stable and loving home.

TVLine reports that Burt’s parents have been cast:

If bionic man Steve Austin and Mrs. Partridge had a baby, he’d apparently look an awful lot like Burt Chance.

TVLine has learned exclusively that 1970s TV icons Lee Majors (The Six Million Dollar Man) and Shirley Jones (The Partridge Family) will appear this fall on Fox’s Raising Hope, playing Burt’s parents. So come on, get happy!

Hello Critical Pals,

Here we are closing in on the end of the first season of RAISING HOPE. Other than the fact I don’t think nearly enough people are watching, it’s been a great season.
Let me tell you something about the finale airing Tuesday, May 17 (9:01-9:31 PM ET/PT) on FOX: It’s the best half-hour of comedy that will be on network television this year. I’m not lying. Watch it yourself. It’s an amazing episode. Trust me; I’ve done a few crappy episodes of TV over the last 15 years that I didn’t want people watching, but this particular episode is really good.

We’ve been done shooting for a while now, and between you and me, not shooting a TV show is boring. I’ve been trying to fill my time in creative ways. I went to the Grand Canyon, played a game of golf, and even spent three hours at Charlie Sheen’s house. I’m not kidding. I don’t know if you know this or not, but he’s quite an interesting fella. I thought I might be able to get some buzz for RAISING HOPE if I met with him. I was hoping we would end up getting arrested in Vegas together or – at the very least – he would stab me. But as it turns out, we just sat in his theater and talked for a few hours. I’d tell you more about it, but to be honest, he scares the shit out of me.

I’m also Tweeting. Not long ago, I would have punched myself in the face for saying that, but I’m actually enjoying it. If you want to, you can tell people to follow me at @whoisgreggarcia. And here’s the fun part, I’m giving stuff away through Twitter. I’m giving away money, TV show stuff and random stuff I find in my house. I gave $100 to a guy in New Jersey for being the first person to call a pay phone at a gas station where I was stopped.
